Experience and passionThe passion to teach and help others started early, so it was logical to start my career as a Secondary Teacher. From there, the Navy recruitment bus visited...and recruited a teacher.
Six years in the Navy allowed me to experience adult teaching, human resources, training development, and an exchange with the Royal Navy at one of their bases in Cornwall. The opportunity to work in the construction industry in both human resources and training came next. Hawkins Construction was an amazing place to work with passionate, knowledgeable, and skilful people. A move to Tauranga saw me start my business Matthews Consulting Ltd . Initially I did more HR and QMS consulting, but my passion of training and development took over. Through my work as a contractor, I was able to work in a huge variety of fields: from civil construction to civil defence, automotive to security, retail to engineering. The list goes on! In 2014 I started with Primary ITO as a Learning Resources Developer. This was a great chance to experience the "inner workings" of an ITO and during a time of many changes and challenges (we called it TRoQ). Working with some outstanding colleagues was a great time of growth for me. 2017, and it was time to return to contracting. I renamed the business "Learnops" to represent the many "ops" that learning brings - opportunities, options, operations, openings, optimise...
